Medicare, Medicaid and other federal programs may soon find a new home, as the Trump administration seeks to rename the Department of Health and Human Services, according to a report in Politico.

Details remain scant but more information may arrive within weeks as the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) readies a report that would shift food-assistance programs beneath the umbrella of HHS -- or whatever name the agency may take -- amid other prospective changes.

Officials at OMB largely support the changes, including the renomer of HHS, which oversees the multibillion-dollar budgets of the Medicare and Medicaid federal insurance programs, according to sources cited in the Politico story.

Usually, renaming federal departments requires congressional action, so the proposal may be a starting point for any changes to HHS and other federal agencies.
