Update: CMS announced Tuesday that it will be holding claims with dates of service on or after April 1 as legislation works its way through the House to extend the delay on a 2% sequestration reduction.

"This will minimize the volume of claims the MACs must reprocess if Congress extends the suspension; the MACs will automatically reprocess any claims paid with the reduction applied if necessary," CMS said in the statement.

The Senate voted 90-2 to approve the extension Thursday, but removed a provision in the House bill that would have avoided another round of payment cuts to account for federal pandemic spending. That means the legislation requires another vote in the House, which won't be back in Washington until April 13.

If signed into law, the legislation would push the timeline for implementing 2% sequestration cuts from April 1 to January 1, 2022.
