Region C RAC Connolly to review hospice use of CBSA codes

Region C recovery auditor (RAC) Connolly will look for hospice claims with core-based statistical area (CBSA) codes which are “invalid or no longer in use.”

The auditor also has an active issue for CBSA codes in home health. Both providers’ wage index payments are based on these codes. The hospice issue affects all states in region C, according to Connolly’s website.

The new audit issue marks the latest entry on a growing list of home health and hospice issues the RACs are tackling. Ongoing home health review topics include medical necessity, OASIS timeliness and incorrect episode timing.
