CMS to outline new hospice billing and claims processing changes

Hospices should attend CMS' open door forum July 11 to learn more about an MLN Matters article related to improvements in hospice billing and claims processing.

CMS has scheduled the home health, hospice and durable medical equipment open door forum for 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. EST July 11.

Changes are coming to hospice billing and claims processing, and CMS recommends hospices review recently issued information and ensure staff is aware of all the updates.

Many of the changes relate to Notices of Election (NOE), which hospice providers are allowed to submit electronically as of Jan. 1, 2018.

Changes include:

Benefit periods will only be created by submission of claims.
NOE submissions will create an election period separate from benefit periods.
Assorted changes to Notice of Election Termination/Revocation (NOTR).
