CMS plans to survey home health agencies on quality reporting and incentive programs, according to a Paperwork Reduction Act notice posted Nov. 15 in the Federal Register.

The federal Medicare agency would use the survey findings to understand a number of things, including whether use of performance measures has been associated with changes in agency behavior.

“The survey will help CMS identify characteristics associated with high performance, which, if understood, could be used to leverage improvements in are among lower-performing [agencies],” CMS states in the proposal.

If approved by August 2019, the survey and interviews would take place between fall 2019 and spring 2020.

The survey would be used to satisfy a requirement that every three years HHS assess the quality and efficiency effects of endorsed measures in certain Medicare programs.

Agencies must submit comments by Jan. 14.
