An issue with RAP processing under the new no-pay RAP policies has led to some RAPs being returned to agencies, but Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) have determined a workaround, according to a message from CGS to providers last week.

While its optional for you to report a Core-Based Statistical Area (CBSA) code using value code 61 for RAPS in 2021, the Medicare systems have been returning RAPs without value code 61 in error since the first of the year.

Under a new workaround to avoid RTPs, MACs will add value code 61 and placeholder CBSA code 10180 to these RAPs so they continue processing, according to the note from CGS to providers Jan. 14. You do not need to take any action and may disregard the added codes.
