A CMS proposal would make it easier for Medicaid home care workers and person care assistants to obtain health insurance, training and other benefits customary for full-time employees, according to a release July 29, 2021. The proposed rule would allow states to make payments to third parties on behalf of certain individual health care practitioners.

The proposed rule would apply to the class of individual practitioners for whom Medicaid is their primary source of revenue, primarily targeting workers providing home and community-based services.

“For example, a practitioner could receive continuous health care coverage because the state automatically deducts funds for health insurance premiums on behalf of the practitioner,” the text of the rule notes.
