People with Medicare should get a booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, says CMS officials in a news release Dec. 2, 2021.
CMS noted it is sending a letter to Medicare beneficiaries encouraging them to get a booster shot as soon as possible. They're also rolling out reminders through advertising campaigns and telephone and email alerts.
CMS continues to provide an additional payment for the administration of a vaccine dose in a patient’s home, bringing the total standard amount of approximately $75, with the actual payment amount geographically adjusted.
You should only bill for the additional in-home payment amount if the sole purpose of the visit is to administer a COVID-19 vaccine. You shouldn’t bill for the additional amount if you provide and bill Medicare for another service in the same home on the same date.
