Home health care services added 5,800 jobs in May, bringing the seasonally adjusted total jobs in the sector to just under 1.6 million, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
 
The new jobs in May more than double the lower gains in April, currently projected at 2,100.
 
Overall, health care added 52,000 jobs in May, similar to the average monthly gain of 50,000 over the prior 12 months.
 
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 339,000 in May — the largest monthly increase since January — with unemployment rising to 3.7%.
