CMS released the home health grouper Aug. 16 containing acceptable primary diagnoses and the high comorbidity and low comorbidity adjustments for the new FY2024 codes — set to take effect Oct. 1.

The grouper also contains a listing of codes that will lose their primary diagnosis clinical designation effective Oct. 1.

Key areas of note:
  • This grouper shows the added ICD-10-CM codes for FY2024 as well as which clinical grouping they would fall under. For example, the new codes to capture Parkinson’s disease with and without dyskinesia and Parkinsonism will fall into the Neuro Rehabilitation clinical group and Neuro 5 comorbidity group. They are: G20.A1  (Parkinson's dis w/o dyskinesia, w/o mention of fluctuations), G20.A2 (Parkinson's disease without dyskinesia, with fluctuations), G20.B1 (Parkinson's dis with dyskinesia, w/o mention of fluctuations), G20.B2 (Parkinson's disease with dyskinesia, with fluctuations) and G20.C (Parkinsonism, unspecified).
  • Several of the new codes were assigned to the unacceptable principal diagnosis list  including E88.A (Wasting disease (syndrome) due to underlying condition), R40.2A (Nontraumatic coma due to underlying condition) and Z16.13 (Resistance to carbapenem).
  • Two new codes were added to the Manifestation Diagnosis list. These codes are: E20.811 (Secondary hypoparathyroidism in diseases classified elsewhere) and H36.89 (Other retinal disorders in diseases classified elsewhere).
  • The grouper also made changes to a few of the code descriptions. For example, the code description under Q85.81 which currently reads “PTEN tumor syndrome” will be changed to “PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome” come Oct. 1.
