Oklahoma joining RCD in December

The Review Choice Demonstration (RCD) will be adding a state with just six months left before it is expected to end.

 

Oklahoma will join the RCD effective Dec. 1, 2023, CMS announced Friday, Sept. 1, 2023.

 

“CMS has the ability to expand the demonstration to additional states in the JM MAC jurisdiction if there is evidence of fraud, waste, or abuse in those states,” according to the announcement by CMS. “Claims analysis showed increased utilization of home health services in Oklahoma, and Oklahoma had higher allowed expenditures and utilization of home health services than the remaining states in the Home Health & Hospice Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) Jurisdiction M not already included in the demonstration.”

 

CMS will implement the demonstration according to the following dates:

Providers will have the choice of pre-claim review, post-payment review or minimal post-payment review with a 25% payment reduction for all home health services.

 

Oklahoma is the first state to join since North Carolina and Florida joined in August 2020. The other three states in the RCD are Illinois, Ohio and Texas.
