A bill introduced Nov. 2, 2023, could provide immigrant visas for up to 25,000 nurses, along with 15,000 physicians.
The bipartisan legislation was introduced by Sen. Dick Durvin, D-Illinois, And Sen. Keven Cramer, R- North Dakota. The Health Care Workforce Resilience Act would “recapture” green cards that were authorized by Congress but unused in previous years, allotting 25,000 to nurses, as well as their immediate family members.
The bill has 14 co-sponsors in the Senate, and a companion bill has been introduced in the House.
