An Alabama-based hospice provider will pay $3 million to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by knowingly submitting false claims for hospice patients who were not terminally ill, according to a Department of Justice release.
Saad Healthcare was accused of submitting false claims for 21 patients despite knowing the patients were ineligible for the hospice benefit.
A lawsuit was filed in the case through the whistleblower provisions of the False Claims Act. Two former employees will receive $540,000 in connection with the settlement.
