CMS is reportedly set to clarify guidance around the all-payor OASIS requirements in effect since July 2025.
According The National Alliance for Care at Home, the particular change will make clear that OASIS collection isn’t mandatory for patients receiving Medicare Part B outpatient therapy services from a home health agency.
In the OASIS Quarterly Q&As released in July, officials had incorrectly stated that the OASIS collection would be required in these cases. The Alliance was quick to note at the time that it would be challenging the guidance, and they noted in a message to members Aug. 29, 2025, that CMS will be retracting that guidance.
CMS confirmed to the Alliance that completion of the OASIS is not required for PT, OT or SLP outpatient services billed under the Medicare Part B benefit when a home health plan of care is not in effect.
An updated Q&A is expected to reflect the corrected guidance and provide clearer direction on how payor data should be collected for the OASIS in relation to these outpatient therapy services, the Alliance noted.
