Home health providers are awaiting word from Congress on the fate of key telehealth capabilities ahead of a deadline Sept. 30, 2025.

Currently, a waiver allows the use of telehealth for a face-to-face encounter when qualifying a patient for home health services.

Legislation has been introduced to extend telehealth capabilities through September 2028, but a more realistic expectation would be a short-term extension included in a continuing resolution. A six-month extension was included in a continuing resolution to fund the government in March 2025.
