CMS has posted the final versions of the OASIS-E2 instrument and guidance manual.
It includes clarifying language around how agencies can use automation and artificial intelligence (AI) in completing the OASIS.
In the draft version of the E2, the section “General OASIS Item Conventions” (1.5.8.1) noted at convention 9, “An agency’s software may not ‘answer’ or ‘generate’ the OASIS response for the assessing clinician.”
The final version of the guidance states, “An agency’s software may not ‘answer’ or ‘generate’ a final code for the OASIS items. Following agency policies, the assessing clinician is responsible for considering available information and ensuring the appropriate OASIS item response(s) were selected, within the appropriate timeframe and consistent with data collection guidance.” (Emphasis added)
Agencies will want to carefully review the E1-to-E2 crosswalk included in the final guidance manual, found at Appendix D, as other information has been updated since the draft version was released in December.
