A set of new and revised Q&As published Dec. 14 illustrates the latest therapy reassessment changes, but contains few surprises.

For example, CMS again confirms that the therapy provisions of the final rule are effective for episodes beginning on or after Jan. 1. It also provides a new scenario which confirms that visits during which a required reassessment was missed will be non-covered.

CMS also updates several existing Q&As to incorporate changes in the final 2013 PPS rule. Under those changes, therapists in multi-discipline cases must reassess on visit 11, 12 or 13 to meet the 13th visit requirement and on visits 17, 18 or 19 to meet the 19th visit requirement (unless the ordered frequency for a discipline doesn’t permit this). CMS also made a coverage change which will allow other disciplines’ visits to remain covered after one discipline misses a reassessment.
