If the lower 48 states expanded the number of seniors receiving home-delivered meals by 1%, 1,722 more Medicaid recipients would avoid living in nursing homes, according to a new study by Brown University. Also, 26 of the states would see a net annual savings by implementing the expansion.

An analysis published in this month’s issue of the journal Health Affairs shows that Pennsylvania would have a $5.7 million net savings and Florida would see a net cost of nearly $11.5 million, according to Science Daily. All 48 states would enable more seniors who could live independently (except for preparing their own meals) to remain in their homes, regardless of whether they are on Medicaid, the study says.
