CMS announced Jan. 28 that it is considering developing a voluntary clinical template physicians can complete during face-to-face examinations of Medicare patients.

The five-page document would serve as a progress note or clinic note that would be part of the medical record, CMS says. The federal Medicare agency plans to seek public comments about the template in advance of the Office of Management and Budget’s approval process.

CMS is also developing an electronic clinical template and will host a series of open door forums, beginning in February 2015, to give agencies, physicians and others a chance to provide feedback.
