The 2016 proposed PPS rule for home health has been submitted to the Office of Management and Budget.

The proposal will update the 60-day national episode rate based on the applicable home health market basket update and case-mix adjustment, an abstract about the rule states. "It also would update the national per-visit rates used to calculate low utilization payment adjustments (LUPAs) and outlier payments under the Medicare prospective payment system for home health agencies. These changes would apply to services furnished during home health episodes beginning on or after January 1, 2016."

In addition, it's expected that CMS will continue to look into the quality measures, selection of states and the payment adjustment percentage for its home health value-based purchasing model it plans on implementing Jan. 1, 2016, in five to eight states.
