Clinicians can polish their understanding of different types of surgical wounds and functional items in CMS’ latest OASIS Q&As, released July 22.

CMS dedicated the most space for guidance in its nine Q&As — questions three through six — to helping clinicians distinguish when diabetic foot ulcers, burr holes in the skull and other incisions and wounds are surgical wounds.

The federal Medicare agency also answers questions about functional items M1200 (Vision) and M1860 (Ambulation); the latter is a quality measure used to help determine an agency’s 5-star rating.
