President Donald Trump on Nov. 13 selected Alex Azar, a former HHS general counsel, to serve as secretary of Health and Human Services.

Azar, a former George W. Bush administration official, also served the Eli Lilly pharmaceutical company for five years, rising to head of Lilly’s U.S. operations.

“He has been around the block and has a lot of respect around the industry and at HHS,” says Mike Strazzella, head of the Washington, D.C., office of law firm Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney and practice group leader for federal government relations.

Azar is a critic of Obamacare, according to The Washington Post.

Trump’s announcement of Azar, which occurred on Twitter, stated, “He will be a star for better healthcare and lower drug prices!”
