The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a few efforts being made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic on April 17.
Some of these efforts include:
  • The announcement of a public-private partnership between the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Foundation for the NIH with the FDA and others in order to speed up the development of COVID-19 vaccine and other treatment options.
  • In an effort to protect consumers, a warning letter was issued by The FDA and Federal Trade Commission to a seller of fraudulent COVID-19 products.
  • The FDA announced an expansion of testing options for COVID-19. Spun synthetic swabs can be used to collect a sample from the front of the nose to test patients.
