Medicare provided an update on accelerated payments. Since expanding the Advance Payment Program (AAP) programs on March 28, CMS approved over 21,000 applications totaling $59.6 billion in payments to Part A providers, which includes hospitals, according to a CMS fact sheet.

CMS is reevaluating the amounts that will be paid through its APP, according to a CMS fact sheet. The APP to Part B suppliers will be suspended effectively immediately. This action follows the payment of $100 billion to health care providers and suppliers with these programs, and in view of the $175 billion appropriated for healthcare provider relief payments.

“For now, if you didn’t ask for accelerated payments, you are probably not getting them now. They are looking at the CARES act grant funds cash flow,” says Robert Markette, an attorney with Indianapolis-based Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman.
Funding will continue to be available through the Provider Relief Fund.
