As a result of COVID-19, hospitals, as well as skilled nursing facilities and home health providers showed a decline in patient volume during the height of the PHE, according to a study recently done by Washington-D.C.-based health care consulting firm Avalere Health.

Results from the study showed home health began to see a small rebound in June, however SNFs have not.

“Discharges to home health experienced a year-over-year increase in June 2020, at 4.6% greater discharge volume when compared to June 2019, while discharges to SNF remained notably below pre-pandemic levels at a 25.4% decrease in year-over-year discharges,” the press release states.
