The Medicare Sequester COVID Moratorium Act, H.R. 8840 legislation, was introduced by Reps. Brad Schneider , D-Ill., and David McKinley , R-W.Va., “to extend the suspension of the two percent Medicare sequestration payment reductions through the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE),” according to a December 3, 2020, National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) press release.

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC), the American Hospital Association (AHA), the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) wrote to congressional leaders on October 21, 2020, to also urge an extension of the suspension of the 2% Medicare sequestration payment reductions.

The break in sequestration payment reductions through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act gave Medicare providers additional reimbursement. The suspension is set to expire after December 31, 2020.
