A medical clinic owner in Richmond, Texas, has been ordered to serve 25 years in prison after being convicted of conspiracy and aiding and abetting health care fraud in a $11 million home health Medicare scam, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.

Brenda Rodriguez was convicted by a Houston jury in January 2019 and ordered Tuesday, May 3, 2021, to serve 300 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

Rodriguez owned and operated the QC Medical Clinic in Richmond. According to prosecutors, she paid doctors to approve patients for home health care regardless of whether it was medically necessary. Rodriguez then sold those approvals to various home health care providers.

Ultimately, the providers billed Medicare for over $11 million as a result of fraudulent patients Rodriguez provided, according to a Department of Justice release.
