CMS should develop and share more information on COVID-19 infection prevention and control best practices that home health providers can use to comply with requirements and guidance, according to a new report from the Department of Health and Humans Services Office of Inspector General (OIG).

Six of eight home health agencies recently audited by the OIG had infection control policies and procedures that complied with CMS requirements and followed guidance to safeguard staff, patients and caregivers, according to the OIG report, released Sept. 24, 2021.

In response, CMS noted that it has provided education and outreach to HHAs on CMS quality and safety standards and that it will continue to share information on best practices with the industry.
