The Medicare Administrative Contractors each issued notices earlier this month highlighting the need for hospice providers to submit data for the Hospice Quality Reporting Program (HQRP) to avoid payment penalties.

“Most new hospices are not aware that all Medicare-certified hospice providers must comply with the individual submission requirements of the HQRP or be subject to a percentage point reduction in their annual payment update (APU),” the message notes. The reduction has increased from 2% to 4% for hospices that aren’t in compliance in 2022 — impacting payments in FY 2024.
