Surveyor ACHC is alerting providers to expectations around the monkeypox public health emergency (PHE) issued Aug. 4. ACHC notes “health care organizations are expected to respond by taking steps to protect patients and health care workers.”

The PHE doesn’t trigger CMS action — CMS waivers would require an additional presidential declaration.

But ACHC put providers on notice in a blog post Aug. 9 that they can’t wait to act.

“Aside from the possible federal actions, the announcement of the monkeypox PHE should serve as a strong reminder to all health care provider organizations that the identified source of the emergency represents a serious, communicable disease threat,” ACHC notes.
