Providers can keep getting a bonus for at-home vaccinations through 2023 as the Department of Health and Human Services extends the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE).

The HHS announced the 90-day extension on Oct. 13, 2022, pushing the end of the PHE to at least the second week of January, if not later.

Previously, CMS had rolled out its timeline for sunsetting pandemic policies and waivers. Some waivers will end with the PHE, or soon after. But a handful of waivers are expected to continue until the end of the calendar year that the PHE ends.

That will keep some COVID-19 flexibilities in place until the end of 2023, including special billing for COVID-19 vaccines.

CMS will continue to pay approximately $75 per dose to administer COVID-19 vaccines in the home through the end of the calendar year that the PHE ends. Effective Jan. 1 of the year following the end of the PHE, CMS will set the payment for administering COVID-19 vaccines to align with the payment rate for administering other Part B preventive vaccines.
