Only a few hospitals are participating heavily in the Hospital at Home program, according to MedPAC’s analysis of the CMS Acuate Care Hospital at Home program.

Its review found that slightly more than a third, 35%, of the 285 hospitals approved for Hospital at Home services have discharged patients in the program.

And, among those 101 hospitals that have participated, the most active 18 hospitals account for more than 62% of all discharges.
The analysis also found:
  • The most common primary diagnoses were infections and chronic conditions
  • Average length of stay was higher than for patients with similar conditions who remained in the same hospital: 6.6 days compared to 5.7 days.
