Hospice providers have new publicly reported data and private preview reports available through CMS.
 
Care Compare was refreshed Nov. 22. Per beneficiary spending increased nationally from $15,207 averaged  in the November 2022 refresh to $16,971 in this latest refresh.
 
For this measure, data in the 2022 refresh included the last nine months of 2019 and the third quarter of 2021, due to the pandemic. The latest refresh included data from calendar years 2021 and 2022.
 
Hospice visits in the last days of life (HVLDL) dropped from 49.2% in the Nov. 2022 refresh to 47.9% in the latest refresh.
 
Portions of the Hospice Item Set (HIS) Comprehensive Assessment, which compared calendar year 2021 and calendar year 2022 data, showed improvement nationally year-over-year, including beliefs & values addressed, pain screening, pain assessment and dyspnea screening, as well as the overall HIS scores.
 
Preview reports are available in CASPER for the February 2024 hospice refresh. Providers are encouraged to download their data for future reference, as it is no longer available after the 60-day preview period.
