Agencies are at a 23.3% response rate nationally to the HHCAHPS survey. That’s according to the latest coordination team quarterly newsletter.
 
Mail-only responses are at 23.2% and phone-only responses are at 21.0% in the fourth quarter of 2023. But mixed mode, a mailed survey with a phone follow-up, saw a 28.5% response rate.
 
The coordination team offered the following tips to improve response rates, including:
  • Identify survey mode (mail, phone or mail with phone follow-up) that works best for your patients.
  • Educate the shared living facilities where your patients reside about the importance of the HHCAHPS Survey.
  • Use the new HHCAHPS Fact Sheet in educational materials to all patients, available in the "Information for HHAs" box on the Home page of the HHCAHPS website.
  • Collect patient's preferred language and ensure patient contact information is accurate.
  • Limit supplemental items to avoid burdensome survey length.
