CMS released the final version of the OASIS-E1 Guidance Manual on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024.

The OASIS-E1 will replace the current version of the instrument beginning on Jan. 1, 2025. The final version of the instrument has not been released.

CMS had pulled a "final" version of the manual released Dec. 9. On Thursday officials published an updated final manual with the change table from the draft version released in the spring.

There were four changes at the front of the book, with three additions from the quarterly OASIS Q&As and one addition from the 2025 home health payment rule.

New in the OASIS-E1

CMS is adding one new item: O0350 Patient’s COVID vaccination is up to date.

Agencies are expected to determine the patient’s vaccine status by reviewing the patient’s medical record or documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or by interviewing the patient, family member, caregiver or health care provider. “Vaccination status may be determined based on information from any available source,” CMS notes in the manual.

CMS is removing two items, M0110 Episode Timing and M2200 Therapy Need that are no longer used in the Home Health Quality Reporting Program (HHQRP).

The GG0130 Self Care and GG0170 Mobility items are revised to remove the Discharge Goals. One item, D0150 Patient Health Questionnaire, is revised to clarify the instructions.
