The average cost of providing home care rose by 3% from 2024 to 2025, according to A Place for Mom, a senior care referral platform.

The median cost of providing home-based care in the United States was $34 an hour in 2025, A Place for Mom stated in its 2026 “Costs of Long-Term Care and Senior Living” report. Inflation and workforce shortages likely contributed to the increase.

The states with the highest average cost of home care include Minnesota, South Dakota, Vermont and Washington. These states averaged over $40 per hour of care. Mississippi ranked lowest in cost at $25 an hour.

The average cost of independent living, assisted living and memory care also rose from 2024 to 2025, the report authors note.
