A California home health agency is being asked to return $43,000 in overpayments to the federal government, according to a report published by the HHS Office of the Inspector General (OIG) on Aug. 10.

Of 100 sampled claims submitted by Deistic Home Health Care, Inc. during an audit period of Jan. 1, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2022, 37 were billed incorrectly. Most of the incorrectly billed claims did not meet billing and coding requirements, though five also failed to meet face-to-face encounter requirements. Only seven of the claims resulted in new overpayments.

The OIG noted in its report that these errors occurred because Deistic did not properly review all medical record documentation. The agency’s Medicare provider agreement was voluntarily terminated in August 2025.
