The owner of a Michigan home health agency admitted to paying illegal kickbacks to recruiters and billing Medicare for claims obtained through those kickbacks, according to a release from the Department of Justice.
 
Zahir Shah, 48, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to pay and receive kickbacks in connection with Medicare beneficiaries.
 
Shah also submitted false certifications to enroll as a Medicare provider, the release states. The scheme caused about an $8 million loss to Medicare between 2007 and 2017, according to the release.
 
Sentencing will be scheduled to take place before Judge Avern Cohn of the Eastern District of Michigan.
