A Missouri man is facing up to five years in prison and/or fines of up to $250,000 for submitting to Medicaid false timesheets for home health aide work.

But 28-year-old Demagio Smith of St. Louis wasn’t actually providing home health aide services on the dates and times listed on those timesheets, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Instead, he was working at another job or traveling out of town to places including California, New Jersey, the Virgin Islands and a trip on a Caribbean cruise ship.

Smith pled guilty to conspiracy to make false statements to Medicaid in connection with the timesheets which falsely suggested that home health care aide work had happened between 2013 and 2017.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 6, 2019. Five other people have already pled guilty to making false statements to Medicaid or related charges based on the same investigation.
