Medicare beneficiaries will now have access to new medical devices faster, according to a final rule CMS announced Jan. 12, 2021. The Medicare Coverage of Innovative Technology (MCIT) (CMS-3372-F) final rule gives 60 million Medicare beneficiaries access to the latest medical technology. According to CMS, the FDA’s approval of a device has often resulted in a lengthy process for Medicare coverage.

It’s not clear how this new rule will impact home health, but it could lead to new devices for care in the home with little delay following FDA approval.
