The COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) is expected to be extended one more time to May 11, according to a statement by the White House on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023.

“At present, the administration’s plan is to extend the emergency declarations to May 11, and then end both emergencies on that date,” according to the statement, made in response to GOP legislation. “This wind-down would align with the administration’s previous commitments to give at least 60 days’ notice prior to termination of the PHE.”

Last year, CMS released guidance related to COVID-19 waivers for home health and hospice providers. Some waivers will end the day that the pandemic ends, while others will continue for a few weeks after the PHE ends or until the end of the year.
